Her research interests are in 19th- and early 20th-century American Literature, African-American Literature, and African Aesthetics. She is currently writing her dissertation, "Traumas of the Middle Passage: The Foundations of Narrative and Political Discourse in Nineteenth-Century African-American Literature."
