Shintech Inc. has currently proposed to build a new PVC plant
in Iberville
parish. They claim to have based their site selection on accessibility
to a port, labor, and supplies rather than because of incentives from the
local government (Scott, 2005). In terms
of addressing the environmental concerns, Governor Blanco has assured
the
communities that the stringent regulations on the plant’s emissions
will be strictly enforced. Unlike Convent, the community in Iberville
is open to the economic boost that Shintech has promised.
