FAQs: The Music Major
For answers not found here, please visit our Academics section, or Contact Us directly.

What if I know from the first semester that I wish to declare a music major?

Students can formally declare their major at any time, but no later than the spring of the student’s sophomore year. However, the sooner students inform a member of the music faculty of their intention, the sooner they receive advising re: course selection and studio placement.

Is it possible to double-major in music and another subject?

Yes, it is both possible and frequently done; see the Alumni page.

Does an AP theory course taken in high school count toward the music major?

AP credit does not necessarily guarantee advanced placement in theory; a placement exam is given during Music Audition Night at the beginning of every academic year.
