Born in Israel, Michal studied at the Tel Aviv University in Israel. Following studies at the Royal Academy of Music in London, she came to the United States in 1979 to study at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia with the Guarneri Quartet cellist David Soyer. While at Curtis she also studied with teachers such as Felix Galimir, Karen Tuttle, Mischa Schneider, and others. Michal received her Master’s Degree at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, where she studied under Lorne Munroe, former principal cellist of the New York Philharmonic Orchestra. Michal is winner of numerous prizes and awards, including ones from the American Israelie Cultural Foundation, the Israeli Arts Council, the Royal Academy of Music in London, the Josef Hoffman Cometition, and the Jean Frederick Perrenoud Competition in Vienna.

She has taught at the Pennsylvania Conservatory, the Berman School of Music, as well as coaching chamber music at Haverford College. She has performed as a soloist with such orchestras as the Temple University Orchestra and the Hankook Symphony in Seoul, Korea. She has toured with the Amabile Quartet and has had performances broadcast on WFLN Classical Radio, WHYY Public Radio and the Israeli Radio. She has also worked with the Composers’ Guild of the University of Pennsylvania, Relache Contemporary Music Ensemble, The Hildegard Players (a group dedicated to the performance of women composers, past and present), and the Network of New Music in Philadelphia. Michal is a member of the newly-formed Four Horizons Quartet, which is dedicated to performances of contemporary music.
