The Majors Committee

The Political Science Majors Committee is composed of seven members, of which at least two are underclassmen. All members are selected by the faculty. Responsibilities of the Committee include but are not limited to: organizing the annual Quiz Bowl; meeting with prospective faculty candidates; assisting with faculty evaluations; and, presenting the Professor of the Year Award at the annual dinner.   

The Committee Shall:

• elect one of its members to serve as “Chair;”
• elect one of its members to serve as “Liaison” to the Pi Sigma Alpha Committee; and,
• elect one of its members to serve as “Secretary.”

All Members Shall:

• be selected by the Department;
• serve for a term of at least one academic semester;
  • With the exception of the “Chair,” any member may be removed from the Committee following a “vote of removal” in which at least four members vote for removal.
• organize the Political Science Quiz Bowl;
• support the “Secretary of the Department” during the course evaluation period, and as requested; and,
• actively work to fulfill the mission of the Committee.        

The “Chair” Shall:

• be elected by the Committee;
• serve in the capacity for one academic year so long as he/she maintains the confidence of the Committee;
  • The “Chair” may be removed from the Committee following a “vote of no confidence” in which at least five members call for the removal of the “Chair.”
• be accountable for the Committee;
• preside over all Committee meetings and functions;
• preside over all necessary Committee votes, excluding a “vote of no confidence,” in which case the “Liaison” will preside;
• keep the “Secretary of the Department” informed and engaged with all Committee business;
• keep the “Chair of the Department” informed of all Committee business; and,
• provide the leadership necessary to ensure that the mission of the Committee is fulfilled.

The “Liaison” Shall:

• be elected by the Committee;
• be a member of the Pi Sigma Alpha Committee in order to ensure that the Committee is informed of the mission, objectives, and activities of the Pi Sigma Alpha Committee;
• serve in the capacity for at least one academic semester;
• be informed of the activities and functions of the Policy Studies, International Business & Management, and International Studies Majors Committees; and,
• if necessary, preside over a “vote of no confidence.”

The “Secretary” Shall:

• be elected by the Committee;
• keep minutes of all formal Committee meetings; and,
• work with the “Secretary of the Department” on a consistent basis.
