All regular meetings are held in East College
at Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania.
Every Sunday: practice of Avalokiteshvara
(Chenresig) sadhana in East College 405 at 9 a.m.
1st Monday: Discussion of topic, book, or
article.
Current topic: a series of lectures on the history of Buddhism by Dan
Cozort of the Dept. of Religion, Dickinson College, whose Ph.D. is in Buddhist
Studies.
2nd Monday: Meditation
3rd Monday: Dharma Talk
Current speaker: Jim Haas, ordained priest by Master Gosung Shin of
American Zen College. Dharma talks are the Buddhist equivalent of "sermons,"
regarding aspects of Buddhist thought and practice.
4th Monday: Film
Recent films have included: "Footprint of the Buddha," about
Buddhism in Sri Lanka; "I Am a Monk," a documentary about an
American who became a monk in Bankok; "Mandala: Sacred Circle of Vajrabhairava,"
about the construction and symbolism of the sand mandala made by Tibetan
monks in Carlisle in 1995; and "Eiheiji," a Japanese documentary
about that remote and impressive Zen mountain monastery.
