Austin Earns Third All-Centennial Field Hockey Honor
November 2, 2006

(Carlisle, PA)-- Senior Katie Austin (Warwick, RI/The Wheeler School) was named to the 2006 All-Centennial Conference field hockey team, announced on Thursday. The senior forward earned Second-Team honors this season. She was a First-Team selection on both 2004 and 2005.

Austin concluded a great career with five goals and four assists this season. She ranks third in career goals (36) and assists (15), and second with 87 career points. She came within one goal of the single season scoring record in 2005, netting 13 goals. She also tied for second on the record list that season with 30 points.

The Red Devils finished the 2006 campaign 7-10 overall and 4-6 in the conference.


Dickinson Beats Haverford 1-0 in Season Finale
October 28, 2006

(Haverford, PA)--The Dickinson College field hockey team finished out the 2006 campaign with a 1-0 win over Haverford College on Saturday afternoon.

The Red Devils came out on fire against the 'Fords as junior Megan Kelly (Lititz, PA/Warwick) drove the ball 40 yards past the Haverford defense to give Dickinson the 1-0 lead. Dickinson's offense played well as they held the 13-11 advantage in shots and forced 12 corners.

Seniors Katie Austin (Warwick, RI/The Wheeler School) and Lisa Mehmet (Haddon Township, NJ/Haddon Twp) both had great performances as they finished out their collegiate careers. Austin and Mehmet were strong offensive leaders throughout the season as they ranked second and third, respectively, in overall points for the team. Austin finished with 14 points (5G, 4A) while Mehment had eight points (4G).

The Red Devil defense kept Haverford scoreless as first-year keeper Amanda West (Harleysville, PA/North Penn) tallied six saves on the day. Junior Morgan Kelly (Gaithersburg, MD/Bullis School) also had an outstanding performance, notching a defensive save for the Red Devils.

The Red Devils end the season with a 7-10 overall record and 4-6 in Centennial Conference play.

Bullets Top Devils in Centennial Field Hockey
October 24, 2006

(Carlisle, PA)--The Dickinson College field hockey team dropped a 7-0 decision to visiting Gettysburg on Wednesday. The Bullets struck three times in the first half and added four after the break.

Maura Downey led the Bullet attack with a pair of goals, including the game-winner in the 17th minute. Junior Katherine Corkhill made three saves to earn the shutout.

First-year Amanda West (Harleysville, PA/North Penn) made five saves and Laura Littman (Kensington, MD/Walter Johnson) made one save in 15 minutes of action.

The Red Devils slip to 6-10 and 3-6 in the Centennial Conference. The Bullets improved to 10-7 and 6-4.

Devils Run Past Washington 2-0
October 21, 2006

(Carlisle, PA)--The Dickinson College field hockey team posted a 2-0 shutout against Centennial Conference opponent Washington College on Saturday afternoon. Senior Katie Austin (Warwick, RI/The Wheeler School) controlled the offense, playing a significant role in both goals for the Red Devils.

Dickinson put one on the scoreboard at the 19:40 mark as Austin set up a corner and assisted first-year Liz Stock (Shillington, PA/Governor Mifflin). The Devils held the advantage during the first half as they outshot Washington 5-2 and forced four corners to lead 1-0 at the break. The Red Devils came out strong after halftime as Austin found first-year Alyssa Sands (Copley, OH/Western Reserve Academy) to give the Devils the 2-0 lead.

Washington fought hard to even the score forcing seven corners to Dickinson's four and outshot Dickinson 9-5. Despite the Shorewomen's efforts, the Red Devil defense kept Washington scoreless. First-year Amanda West (Harleysville, PA/North Penn) five saves for Dickinson, whereas Elena Nicholoff posted six saves on the day for Washington.

The Red Devils improve to 7-9 overall and 3-5 in the CC. They host Gettysburg on Tuesday at 3:00 pm.

Diplomats Post 3-0 Win Over Devils
October 18, 2006

(Lancaster, PA) - The Dickinson College field hockey team dropped a 3-0 decision at Franklin & Marshall on Wednesday afternoon. The Diplomats scored once in the first half and tacked on two after the break to improve to 5-10 overall and 5-4 in the Centennial Conference.

Three different players scored for F&M. Jessica Senior netted the game-winner in the first half while Millicent Scott and Allison Barthold tallied in the second. Brenna Dolphin, Anne Christiansen and Brittany Carson each had an assist.

Senior Katie Austin (Warwick, RI/The Wheeler School) played well for the Devils, recording three shots. She moved into the midfield and turned in a strong performance there as well. Junior Colleen Hoy (Martinsville, VA/Carlisle School) also played well for the Devils.

First-year Amanda West (Harleysville, PA/North Penn) 13 saves for Dickinson. Jen Burdo stopped three shots to earn the shutout.

The Red Devils return home to face Washington College on Saturday at 1:00 pm.


UMW Tops Devils 3-0 in Non-Conference Hockey
October 14, 2006

(Fredericksburg, VA) - Senior defender Lauren Allen scored a pair of goals on penalty corners, and junior Kiri Jimerson added a goal and two assists, as the University of Mary Washington field hockey team defeated Dickinson, 3-0 on Saturday at the Battleground.

Allen boomed a penalty corner off Jimerson's pass eleven minutes into play, and then cracked another corner from assists by Jimerson and Sarah Pierson twenty two minutes into play. Jimerson closed the corner on a pass from Alison Weckstein in the opening minutes of the second half to push the lead to 3-0.

UMW goalkeeper Kat Brown had 13 saves, including one on a penalty stroke by Dickinson in the waning minutes. Maureen McGee and Kim Blodgett each had defensive saves for the Eagles as they were outshot, 17-10, and had eight penalty corners to 14 for the Devils.

First-year goaltender Amanda West (Harleysville, PA/North Penn) made five saves for Dickinson.

The Red Devils (5-8) travel to Franklin & Marshall on Wednesday to face the Diplomats at 4:00 pm.

Miller Nets Two as Blue Jays Top Devils
October 11, 2006

(Baltimore, MD) - The Dickinson College field hockey team dropped a 2-0 decision at Johns Hopkins on Wednesday afternoon. Sophomore Emily Miller tallied both goals to lead the Blue Jays as they improve to 8-5 overall and 4-1 in the Centennial Conference.

JHU held the advantage for most of match, outshooting the Devils 22-6 and forcing 16 corners. First-year goaltender Amanda West (Harleysville, PA/North Penn) made 12 saves for Dickinson. Danya Eng stopped four shots in the Blue Jay cage.

The Red Devils (5-7, 2-4) travel to Virginia on Saturday to face the University of Mary Washington at 1:00 pm.

Austin Blasts Devils Past Mules 2-0
October 6, 2006

(Carlisle, PA) - The Dickinson College field hockey team posted a 2-0 shutout over visiting Muhlenberg in Centennial Conference action on Friday afternoon. Senior Katie Austin (Warwick, RI/The Wheeler School) led the charge with a pair of goals as Dickinson improves to 5-6 overall and 2-3 in the conference. Muhlenberg falls to 7-5 and 2-3.

The Red Devils held a slight advantage throughout the game with strong play in the midfield. Austin blasted a shot off a penalty corner from junior Colleen Hoy (Martinsville, VA/Carlisle School) into the back of the cage to put Dickinson in front 1-0 just 4:34 into the game.

Austin struck again in the 60th minute, taking a pass from Megan Kelly (Lititz, PA/Warwick) across the front of the goal and beating the goaltender with the insurance goal.

First-year goaltender Amanda West (Harleysville, PA/North Penn) made six saves to record her third career shutout. Lauren Schram stopped six shots as well for Muhlenberg.

The Red Devils travel to Baltimore next Wednesday to face the Blue Jays of Johns Hopkins University at 5:00 pm.

Second Half Surge Leads McDaniel Past Devils
October 3, 2006

(Carlisle, PA) - The Dickinson College field hockey team dropped a 4-2 Centennial Conference decision to visiting McDaniel on Tuesday afternoon. The Green Terror scored three goals in a span of 5:03 in the second half to secure the win and improve to 6-6 overall and 3-1 in the conference.

First-year Alyssa Sands (Copley, OH/Western Reserve Academy) scored with an assist from Megan Kelly (Lititz, PA/Warwick) on a free hit at the top of the circle just 1:50 into the contest. Sophomore Lindsey McDonald tallied the equalizer off a penalty corner to make the score 1-1 at halftime.

Senior Colleen Nugent struck twice in a span of just 2:07, both off rebounds, to put McDaniel in front 3-1 in the 43rd minute. Classmate Caitlin Porter scored at the 45:46 mark with an assist from Brooke Dixon to stretch the lead to 4-1.

The Devils kept battling and converted on a penalty corner in the 68th minute. Senior Katie Austin (Warwick, RI/The Wheeler School) ripped a shot from just inside the circle. Sands collected the rebound and found Colleen Hoy (Martinsville, VA/Carlisle School) on the left post. Hoy slipped the ball into the cage to cut the deficit to 4-2.

That would close out the scoring despite some quality chances for both teams in the final minutes. First-year goaltender Amanda West (Harleysville, PA/North Penn) made 17 saves on the day as McDaniel outshot the Devils 26-7. The Green Terror also held a 14-6 advantage in penalty corners. Erika Wawyanick made four saves for McDaniel.

First-year Katelynn Bias (Mechanicsburg, PA/Mechanicsburg) played well in the midfield and made a defensive save in the second half.

The Red Devils (4-6, 1-3) are home again on Friday. They host Muhlenberg College at 4:30 pm.

Early Goal Leads Swarthmore Past Devils 1-0
September 30, 2006

(Swarthmore, PA) - The Dickinson College field hockey team dropped a 1-0 decision at Swarthmore College on Saturday afternoon. Senior forward Julia Morrison scored the game's only goal just 1:34 into the contest as Swarthmore improved to 7-3 overall and 2-1 in the Centennial Conference.

First-year Amanda West (Harleysville, PA/North Penn) made 13 saves on the day as the Garnet Tide held a 17-6 shot advantage. Penalty corners were at a minimum for both teams with Swarthmore forcing six to the Devils' three for the game. Senior goaltender Karen Lorang made three stops to post the shutout for Swarthmore.

Dickinson falls to 4-5 overall and 1-2 in the conference. They return home to face McDaniel College on Tuesday at 4:00 pm.

Red Devils Battle #11-Ranked Lebanon Valley to OT
September 26, 2006

(Carlisle, PA) - The Dickinson College field hockey team battled #11-nationally ranked Lebanon Valley College to overtime before falling 2-1 in the 81st minute. The Red Devils showed no fear, even after an early goal put the Dutchwomen in front 10 minutes into the game.

Steph Marguglio scored both goals off corners for Lebanon Valley. She finished an assist from Krista Freitag at the 9:58 mark of the first half. The Red Devils tallied the equalizer less than three minutes later as senior Lisa Mehmet (Haddon Township, NJ/Haddon Twp) struck off an assist from first-year Alyssa Sands (Copley, OH/Western Reserve).

The score would remain 1-1 through the remainder of regulation. The Red Devils played even with LVC behind an outstanding defensive effort. Junior Morgan Kelly (Gaithersburg, MD/Bullis) made a huge defensive save early in the second half to keep the game tied.

A total team effort kept the Devils in the hunt for the win as they stopped LVC on 21-of-23 penalty corners. First-year goaltender Amanda West (Harleysville, PA/North Penn) made a number of big saves, stopping 13 shots on the afternoon. The Dutchwomen had a chance to end the game in regulation, forcing a penalty stroke with 2:08 remaining in the contest. West turned the shot away, keeping the Devils alive and sending the game into overtime.

Lebanon Valley kept the pressure on, forcing seven corners in the first overtime period. They would capitalize 10 minutes into the extra frame as Marguglio finished a well executed corner with assists from Erika Peter and Amber Corcoran. Katie Pawlewicz made four saves in goal for LVC as they improve to 5-1 overall.

Dickinson falls to even at 4-4 overall. They return to Centennial Conference action on Saturday, traveling to Swarthmore College to face the Garnet Tide at 2:00 pm.

Sands Nets Two as Devils Shutdown Owls 4-0

(Bryn Mawr, PA) - The Dickinson College field hockey team shutout Bryn Mawr College 4-0 on Friday afternoon. First-year Alyssa Sands (Copley, OH/Western Reserve Academy) scored a pair of goals to lead the Red Devil attack.

Senior Lisa Mehmet (Haddon Twp., NJ/Haddon Twp.) tallied the game-winner in the 19th minute. Sophomore Megan Kelly (Lititz, PA/Warwick) scored off a corner with an assist from Katie Austin (Warwick, RI/The Wheeler School) and Sands on a penalty corner in the 34th minute.

The Red Devils dominated the match, outshooting the Owls 14-0 and holding a 17-6 edge in penalty corners. First-year Amanda West (Harleysville, PA/North Penn) earned the shutout for Dickinson.

Dickinson improves to 4-3 overall and 1-1 in the Centennial Conference while Bryn Mawr drops to 2-6 overall and 0-2 in the CC. The Devils host Lebanon Valley College on Tuesday at 4:30.

Moore Leads #7-Ranked Bears Past Devils

(Carlisle, PA)--Jennie Moore netted two goals and Kait Sutherland added a goal and an assist for Ursinus and led her team to a 4-0 win over the Dickinson College women's field hockey team on Saturday.

First-year goalkepper Laura Littman (Kensington, MD/Walter Johnson) made her collegiate debut and notched 16 saves for the Red Devils. Strong defensive efforts were also made by juniors Morgan Kelly (Gaithersburg, MD/Bullis School), who tallied her sixth defensive save of the season, and Megan DeLuca (Cresco, PA/Pocono Mountain East), who helped hold the 7th-ranked Bears to a pair of goals in each half.

Ursinus outshot Dickinson 20-5 and held an 11-4 advantage in penatly corners. Dickinson drops to 3-3 overall and 0-1 in the Centennial. The Red Devils travel to Bryn Mawr on Friday for a 4:30pm start.

Red Devils Rally Past York in Double Overtime
September 12, 2006

(Carlisle, PA)--First-year Alyssa Sands (Copley, OH/Western Reserve) scored the game-winning goal in the 95th minute to lead Dickinson College to a 3-2 double-overtime win over visiting York College on Tuesday. Sands slipped the ball in the cage to end a wild scramble and give the Devils a come-from-behind win to improve to 3-2 overall.

Dickinson erased a two goal deficit, scoring the tying goal with no time remaining after forcing a penalty corner with four seconds on the clock. York took a 2-0 lead in the first half with goals from April McFarland and Rachel Alderfer.

Sands found senior Katie Austin (Warwick, RI/The Wheeler School) on a corner with 4:32 remaining in the game to pull Dickinson within one. Sands earned another assist on the game-tying goal, send the ball to Katelynn Bias (Mechanicsburg, PA/Mechanicsburg) who drilled a shot to send the game into overtime.

Both teams had quality chances in the first, 7-on-7 overtime period, but neither could put the game away. Following a barrage of shots, Sands battled on the goal line and finally pushed the ball past the goaltender for the win.

First-year Claire Rekitzke did all she could in goal for York, stopping 19 shots on the afternoon. She turned away three consecutive shots before the ball found its way to the stick of Sands for the winner. Red Devil goaltender Amanda West (Harleysville, PA/North Penn) finished with seven saves.

Junior Megan DeLuca (Cresco, PA/Pocono Mountain East) anchored a strong defensive effort with an outstanding performance in the back. Morgan Kelly (Gaithersburg, MD/Bullis) was solid as well, making two defensive saves.

York slips to 1-3 on the season. The Red Devils improve to 3-2 overall and will host #7-ranked Ursinus College in the Centennial Conference opener on Saturday at 12:00 pm.

Kelly Named CC Defensive Player of the Week

(Carlisle, PA)- Dickinson College junior Morgan Kelly (Gaithersburg, MD/Bullis) was named the Centennial Conference field hockey Defensive Player of the Week for her performance in the Devils' last three games. Kelly tallied three defensive saves in a solid effort against nationally-ranked Messiah College.

She also played well over the weekend as the Red Devils shutout Bridgewater College 3-0 and posted a 3-1 win over Roanoke.


Austin Leads Red Devils to 3-1 Win
September 9, 2006

(Carlisle, PA)--Senior Katie Austin (Warwick, RI/The Wheeler School) netted two goals to lead the Dickinson College field hockey team to a 3-1 win over Roanoke College on Saturday afternoon. Dickinson out shot Roanoke 28-5 and forced 16 corners on the day.

The Red Devils came out on fire as sophomore Kathleen Crane (Plymouth, NH/Holderness School) scored off an assist from first-year Alyssa Sands (Copley, OH/Western Reserve) three minutes into the first half. Dickinson maintained possesion for the remainder of the half, but would not find the back of the net until after the break.

Ten minutes into the second half, Austin nailed one past Roanoke's keeper off an assist from junior Colleen Hoy (Martinsville, VA/Carlisle School) to give the Devils the 2-0 advantage. Minutes later Dickinson forced a corner for another Hoy to Austin goal.

With six minutes remaining the Maroons snuck one past first-year keeper Amanda West (Harleysville, PA/North Penn) to put a notch on the scoreboard. West made two saves on the day while Roanoke's keeper Lindsey Paz recorded 20 saves.

The Red Devils improve to 2-2 on the season and host York College on Tuesday at 4:30pm.

Mehmet Strikes Twice in 3-0 Win

(Carlisle, PA)--The Dickinson College field hockey team posted a 3-0 shutout to win its home opener on Friday afternoon. Senior Lisa Mehmet (Haddon Township, NJ/Haddon Twp) scored two goals to lead the way for the Red Devils as they improve to 1-2 on the season.

First-year Alyssa Sands (Copley, OH/Western Reserve) tallied the game-winner in the 28th minute, re-directing a pass from senior Katie Austin (Warwick, RI/The Wheeler School). Mehmet found the net with her first goal at the 43:41 mark with an assist from sophomore Kathleen Crane (Plymouth, NH/Holderness School). She struck again off a rebound in the 57th minute to close out the scoring for the game.

Dickinson dominated play from the opening whistle, outshooting the Eagles 29-3 on the day. First-year Amanda West (Harleysville, PA/North Penn) made one save in her first collegiate shutout. Bridgewater's Elizabeth Sullivan stopped 21 shots, facing 17 penalty corners by the Red Devils. Dickinson allowed just two penalty corners in the contest.

First-years Katelynn Bias (Mechanicsburg, PA/Mechanicsburg) and Jenny Saber (Potomac, MD/Winston Churchill) played well in the midfield. Colleen Hoy (Martinsville, VA/Carlisle School) and Morgan Kelly (Gaithersburg, MD/Bullis School) anchored a solid defensive effort.

The Red Devils return to action tomorrow afternoon, hosting Roanoke College at 3:00 pm.

Top-Ranked Messiah Tops Devils 3-1

(Grantham, PA)--The Dickinson College field hockey team fell to #1-ranked Messiah College 3-1 on Wednesday afternoon. The Red Devils scored off a corner with just 11 seconds remaining to spoil the shutout. Colleen Hoy (Martinsville, VA/Carlisle School) tallied the goal with assists from Megan Kelly (Lititz, PA/Warwick) and Alyssa Sands (Copley, OH/Western Reserve Academy).

First-year goaltender Amanda West (Harleysville, PA/North Penn) played solid in goal against the top-ranked Falcons. Lisa Mehmet (Haddon Township, NJ/Haddon Twp.), Katelynn Bias (Mechanicsburg, PA/Mechanicsburg) and Megan DeLuca (Cresco, PA/Pocono Mountain East) also played well for the Devils.

The Red Devils will host Bridgewater College on Friday at 4:00 pm and Roanoke on Saturday at 3:00.


Devils Fall in Opener 3-0
September 2, 2006

(Harrisonburg, VA)--The Dickinson College field hockey team dropped a 3-0 decision to Eastern Mennonite in its 2006 season opener. The Royals scored at the 19:28 mark and added a second goal just under three minutes later to take a 2-0 lead into halftime. EMU tacked on another goal 14 minutes into the second half to close out the scoring.

Dickinson held a 14-11 advantage in shots behind a game-high six from senior Katie Austin (Warwick, RI/The Wheeler School). Classmate Lisa Mehmet (Haddon Township, NJ/Haddon Twp.) played well in the midfield, as did first-year Kathleen Crane (Plymouth, NH/Holderness School).

Alyssa Borcki made eight stops in goal for EMU while first-year Amanda West (Harleysville, PA/North Penn) made three saves for Dickinson.

Kristie Souder, Meghan Hershey and Lauren Michel scored for the Royals while Julie Denlinger added an assist.

The Red Devils travel to Messiah College on Wednesday to face the Falcons at 4:00 pm.
