Red Devils Sweep Division II Shippensburg (Shippensburg, PA) - The Dickinson College women's tennis team swept Division II Shippensburg 9-0 on Saturday afternoon. The Red Devils won all but one singles match in straight sets and surrendered just a combined three points in doubles. Southeast Regional (Fredericksburg, VA) - The Dickinson College women's tennis team competed at the Wilson/ITA Southeast Regional Tournament over the weekend, hosted by the University of Mary Washington. The Red Devils played well to open the 2006-07 season. Seniors Erica Tobias (Stamford, CT/Stamford) and Amanda Kaplan (Stow, MA/Brooks School) advanced to the finals of Consolation Draw, but were unable to compete in the final match that was scheduled for Monday. Tobias and Kaplan dropped their opening match in the Main Draw, falling to host UMW 8-3. They rebounded to defeat Hollins University 8-1 to advance to the quarterfinals. Tobias and Kaplan posted an 8-2 win over Bridgewater and defeated Centennial Conference opponent Swarthmore in the semi-final 8-1. Sophomores Maya Ginsberg (Cincinnati, OH/King's) and Hana Thomson (Ann Arbor, MI/Pioneer) rolled past Catholic University 8-0 in the opening round and defeated Bridgewater 9-7 to advance to the Main Draw quarterfinals. The Red Devils then dropped an 8-3 decision to Mary Washington. In singles, Tobias overcame a first-round set-back to Katie Kingsbury of Washington & Lee (6-0, 6-1) to advance to the semifinal of the Consolation Draw. She topped Catholic's Mary Wargo 8-1, Washington College's Rebecca Davis (8-6) and Lisa Faney from Virginia Wesleyan 8-3. Tobias was forced to widthdraw from the semifinal that was also to be played on Monday. Kaplan and Thomson each went 1-1 in singles competition while Ginsberg finished 1-2 for the weekend.
