Membership Benefits
The Oral History Association has recently
transferred its membership database and publication of the
Oral
History Review to Oxford University Press. All applications
for membership and questions regarding membership should be directed to
Oxford University Press Journals. Pamphlets and back issues of the Newsletter will still be available
from the Oral History Association office. See publications.
Members of the OHA receive up-to-date information about current
activities and immediate issues in the OHA Newsletter, published three times
a year. Theoretical and methodological discussions take place in the semiannual
journal, the Oral History Review. New members are encouraged to print the Oral History Evaluation Guidelines, a document outlining professional
standards for the practice of oral history, from our website. Other association publications include
pamphlets on such topics as community history and the legal aspects of oral
history.
The Oral History Association meets each fall in one of four regions in North America. The annual meetings include panes and papers
that address a wide variety of theoretical, topical, and practical issues
related to oral history. Recent meeting themes have included community
history, America since the Civil rights movement, and varieties of ethnic
history. Workshop sessions emphasize practical matters such as legal concerns,
media applications, and preservation and access. Meetings also provide
opportunities to get to know oral historians from around the world.
