The Citation:
In July of 1998, I stood at the podium of the Queen Elizabeth Hotel in Montreal and presented this year’s Distinguished Service recipient with the AATF Teacher of the Year Award in recognition of her outstanding contributions to French teachers on the state, regional and national level. Ten years have passed and our recipient has not slowed down – in fact her professional life has been on fast forward!
As Chair of the 2006 Northeast Conference, she chose as her theme: “Building on Common Ground: Within, Across, Beyond,” a theme which reflects both her professional and her and personal philosophy. Building Across – she collaborated with ACTFL on their content standards, performance guidelines and the Annenberg videos. For AATF, she chairs the Commission on Student Standards. Building Within – she presents workshops and keynote speeches on language learning through technology, assessment strategies, differentiating instruction and racial diversity highlighting the poetry of Maya Angelou. Building Beyond – while on a trip to Paris with her students, she heard 2 words “Springfield Massachusetts,” and followed their trail which led to the discovery of one of France’s most beloved musical icons, Carole Fredericks. Now, the legacy of this legendary singer is alive in French classrooms across America.
No one represents our profession with more grace, more heart and more distinction than our 2007 Distinguished Service Winner - NANCY GADBOIS –
You are a rare jewel in the MaFLA Crown!
