"What's the good of news if you haven't a sister to share it?"
Jenny DeVries
Grand Convention is the delegating body of Kappa Alpha Theta. Every other year, representatives from each college and alumnae chapter come together to enact new policies and laws, elect the Grand Council, establish qualifications for recruitment and new member education, and of course socialize!
This past June, Rebecca Fassio '09, president of the Epsilon Lambda chapter here at Dickinson College, attended Grand Convention in Miami, Florida. She accepted the following awards on behalf of the chapter: runner-up for Improvement in Advisory Board, runner-up for Panhellenic Achievement, Improvement in Recruitment and Membership Selection award, and the celebrated Soaring Kite award. The Soaring Kite award recognizes and honors one chapter that has demonstrated considerable progress over the course of two years.
The sisters of Epsilon Lambda are honored by the recognition received at Grand Convention. We would not be what we are if it was not for those alumnae, advisors, and administrators who have been great sources of support and friendship. “We've had fabulous support from the college and from alumnae,” says Fassio. “We have a lot of people on our side who realize we're doing good things and, while we can do a lot, we can do even better with people rooting for us.”

This spring, the Kappa Alpha Theta sisters were active raising money for the Project Share, Randi's Race, and CASA. Throughout the semester, we hosted , Rock the CASA, a designer clothing sale, and Haircut-a-thon. Thetas also donate hours and money to many other philanthropies and events around campus and within Carlisle including the Pancake Breakfast and the Polar Bear Plunge.
Rock the CASA is Kappa Alpha Theta's largest Philanthropy event. The event was co-sponsored with WDCV and MOB. This year was our second annual benefit concert featuring The Whigs with special guest Ravens & Chimes and I Nine. All proceeds went to the Cumberland County chapter of Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA). The Whigs recently appeared on David Letterman and you may view their Web site at www.thewhigs.com or www.myspace.com/thewhigs. Visit the Ravens & Chimes Web sites at www.ravensandchimes.com or www.myspace.com/ravensandchimes.
The sisterhood is active in the Greek community. Sisters have supported the efforts of the Panhellenic Association in raising money for Up 'Til Dawn and Seeds for Mozambique. In March, Delta Nu hosted Mr. Dickinson 2008, for which our new members choreographed a piece to perform.
Sisters always find spare time in between school work, extracurriculars, and charity to relax. This semester, KAT put together sisterhood activities that included crush parties, barbecues, Monday night Greek showings, and movie nights.
The CASA that is! During the fall of 2007, the Epsilon Lambda chapter was the recipient of a prestigious award from the Pennsylvania chapter of Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) for our efforts in raising money and support for the Carlisle office. CASA is the national philanthropy of Kappa Alpha Theta. Each year, Epsilon Lambda raises money and awareness at Dickinson through our primary fundraisers Rock the CASA, Cooking for CASA, and the Hair Cut-A-Thon, as well as many smaller events held throughout the year. This is a great honor to the chapter and we thank everyone on campus for their support in making these events a success!
