Jive Turkeys Constitution

We the Frisbee players of Dickinson College, in order to form a more perfect union among Frisbee players everywhere, establish a friendly social environment, provide for the common entertainment, secure the blessings of Frisbee, friends, and fun on ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution of The Jive Turkeys.

Article I: The name of the organization shall be the Jive Turkeys.

Article II: The organization has no official affiliations with other college or national organizations, however they shall work with them to achieve the aims of the organization.

Article III: The organization’s aim shall be to provide an outlet whereby students may play Ultimate Frisbee in a welcoming and supportive atmosphere. The organization will achieve this goal through regular practices and social events. The organization shall also play in Ultimate Frisbee tournaments whenever the members of the organization deem it fit.

Article IV: Any Dickinson College Student who shows an interest in playing Frisbee by attending any practice or tournament shall be considered a member of the organization.

Article V: Administrative responsibility and power shall be divided between three branches: President, Treasurer, and Captains. Officers shall be elected by all members of the organization present at a special election meeting which will be called by the President before the end of the academic year. All members present shall have one vote. If any member present shall ask for the voting to be conducted by secret ballot, it shall be done so and two uninvolved members shall be selected by open voting to count the votes. Any ties in any elections shall be decided by a second round of voting between the two candidates who received the most votes. If a tie still occurs following the second round of voting, the advisor shall be asked to break the tie. All officers shall assume their duties on the date of the College’s spring graduation ceremonies. Any vacancies shall be filled by special election called by the President within a week of his or her notification of the vacancy, the special election shall follow the same rules and format of annual elections. No elected officer shall hold more than one office.

Section A: There shall be a President. The President shall be responsible for the communications of the organization and their public relations. To the President shall fall primary responsibility for checking the email account, finding out and signing up for tournaments, and communicating with college officials when such communication is necessary. The President shall be responsible for keeping a copy of this Constitution and making it available to all persons whom wish to read it. The President may appoint at his or her pleasure a Vice-President to aid in his or her responsibilities and any other officers which he or she may deem necessary for the running of the club. The offices may include, but are not limited to:

Part 1: Transportation Secretary, responsible for arranging transportation to and from tournaments either through car-pooling of members or through the college vehicle service.
Part 2: Housing Secretary, responsible for housing arrangements for members when such arrangements may be necessary for tournaments.
Part 3: Chief Corporate Officer, responsible for organizing fundraisers such as the Frisbee sale.

Section B: There shall be a Team Captain. The Captain is responsible for organizing, scheduling, and running practices, as well as attending Captain’s Meetings at Tournaments. The chief responsibility of the Captain however, shall be team morale. The Captain’s responsibility is to be certain that the spiritual health of the team remains good and that the team does not lose sight of the Jive Turkey’s tradition and ideals. The Captain may, at his or her leisure, appoint as many as two Assistant Captains to aid in the conduct of his or her duties.

Section C: There shall be a Treasurer. It shall be the duty of the Treasurer to be certain all the organizations pecuniary affairs are in order, that debts are paid and incomes collected, additionally, the Treasurer, shall, with input from the members create and submit a budget for Student Senate funding. No club money, whether from Senate or fundraising may change hands without the Treasurer’s knowledge and consent. The Treasurer shall appoint an Assistant Treasurer to aid him or her in his or her responsibilities. It is the duty of the Treasurer to educate his or her replacement before they assume office.

Section D: There shall be an advisor who shall aid the members and officers in achieving the aims of the organization, the advisor shall be appointed by the President.

Article VI: Business shall be conducted by the officers for the usual functioning of the club. If any member feels the organization as a whole need address some issue, they may call a meeting and may appoint a time and a place. At this meeting it is the duty of the President to assure all opinions and viewpoints are heard, it is up to the President’s discresion to use Robert’s Rules of Order or not. Decisions at this meeting will be made by a majority vote with each member present having one vote.

Article VII: Any member may call for the recall of any officer whom they feel has acted unconstitutionally, abused their power, or has done damage to the organization through their actions or words. The meeting time and place shall be decided by the member calling the officer into question, however, the club must be notified at least one week in advance of the meeting through email and the meeting must take place on the Dickinson Campus. At the meeting the accuser shall present their case and the accused shall speak in their defense. Any other member present who wishes to speak may do so. When all have spoken who wish to, a vote shall be taken by secret ballot and counted by 2 members not directly involved in the issue, one appointed by each side. If a majority of members believe the officer to be guilty and worthy of removal from office, the officer shall be removed. If a tie should occur, the officer shall stay in office.

Article VIII: This Constitution may be amended by a special meeting called by any member of the organization. The members shall be given one weeks notice of the meeting which must be held on campus. The proposed amendments shall be proposed and discussed by any member present. If a vote of 2/3 of the members present wishes to amend the Constitution in the proposed way, it shall be so amended. Secret ballots shall be used if any member present calls for them and the votes shall be counted by two members elected by open voting by all members present. The member who proposed the amendment may not be elected to count the votes.

Article IX: This Constitution was ratified 2/3 of all members present at the Jive Turkey Constitutional Convention of 2005 in Carlisle PA.
